EFCC Operatives Storm Obasanjo’s Hotel In Abeokuta
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed the Green Legacy Resort of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), in Abeokuta, in the early hours of Sunday.
They invaded the premises during a party held at the pool side of the facility.
The management of the facility in a statement made available to newsmen, confirmed the development, that the agents of the anti graft agency invaded the premises in a Gestapo like gang.
The statement said about 50 armed men stormed the premises, shooting guns, and threatening to kill people.
The management said that the development caused panic and confusion within the premises which led to many being injured.
According to the statement, the team lead of the anti graft agency, identified as ‘Olopade’ was said to have informed the Managing Director of the facility, Vitalis Ortese, that they acted on intelligence.
It said that the event was a private event and was advertised on various platforms for awareness, and expressed worries about the way and manner they operatives stormed the premises.
The management said the action of the agents was a case of invasion of private property and infringement of OOPL rights as corporate citizens and blatant violation of rights of people who were in attendance at the event.
It therefore demanded an apology from the EFCC authoritises for the infringementof its rights, to all those who gathered, and those who sustained serious injuries from the gangster like induced chaos.
The statement reads, “It should be noted that the event was a private event that had been widely advertised to members of the public for days.
“It should also be noted that both the police officers stationed at the OOPL gates and the additional police sent from the Kemta Police Station, as requested by the organizers of the event and management, stated that they were NOT informed of any planned operation by the EFCC, and neither did they present any warrant. And when the armed men were accosted by OOPL security and assisting police officers, they simply retorted, “We are doing our job”.
“Management wishes to state that this action by the EFCC is a clear case of invasion of private property, infringement of OOPL rights as corporate citizens, and indeed a stark and blatant violation of the rights of the people who so gathered for the event.
“Management has commenced its investigation on the invasion and will take up the matter with the highest authorities, including the EFCC, the police, and the Department of State Security.
“In the meantime, management demands an explanation of these impudent actions from the Commission and an apology from the EFCC authorities for the infringement of its rights, to all those who gathered, and those who sustained serious injuries from the gangster like induced chaos. Failure for which the management will be compelled to seek redress.”
