EFCC Chairman Denies Allegations Of Political Witch-Hunt Under Tinubu’s Administration
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has refuted claims that President Bola Tinubu is using the anti-graft agency to target opposition party members.
Speaking during a television interview, Olukoyede dismissed the allegations as baseless, describing them as attempts to divert attention from the administration’s ongoing reforms and achievements.
He emphasized that President Tinubu is focused on accountability and performance across all sectors of government.
“I think Nigerians should appreciate the kind of president we have at this time—and I’m being sincere. It’s not because of my position. Anyone who works closely with the President—members of the Federal Executive Council, heads of ministries, departments, and agencies—will tell you that his consistent message is: ‘What have you done? How much have you recovered?’” he said.
Olukoyede stated that the President has no interest in political distractions, adding, “He doesn’t want to hear anything except performance. People making such claims are simply trying to distract a working government.”
Addressing further accusations that the EFCC selectively targets opposition figures, Olukoyede pointed to the Commission’s case history as proof of impartiality.
“If you check the statistics, particularly of high-profile cases we’ve investigated and prosecuted, you’ll find more individuals from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) than the opposition,” he explained.
He stressed that it would be unjust for the EFCC to avoid prosecuting opposition figures merely to avoid political backlash.
“You will find prominent APC members among those we have investigated and charged. Refusing to act against opposition members when there’s evidence would be unfair to the Commission and a disservice to justice,” he said.
