Lagos DSVA Boss Seeks Collaboration with FCID to Combat Domestic Violence

The Executive Secretary (ES) of Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Titilola Vivour Adeniyi, is seeking enhanced collaboration with the Nigerian Police towards curbing domestic and sexual violence in the state. 

Adeniyi said the collaboration would help to arrest the daunting challenge in the state and the country by extension.

In a statement signed by ASP Aminat Mayegun, Police Public Relations Officer of the FCID, the ES emphasised the need for a united front against the menace during a visit to AIG Idowu Owohunwa, at the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Lagos on Tuesday.

During the courtesy visit, Mrs Vivour-Adeniyi appreciated the innovative efforts of AIG Owohunwa in repositioning the Gender-Based Violence Unit of Lagos State Police Command during his tenure as Commissioner of Police and congratulated him on his promotion and deployment as AIG FCID (Annex), Lagos.

While highlighting the activities of her Agency and the pervasiveness of the menace of domestic and sexual violence in Lagos, she sought the support of AIG Owohunwa and the partnership of FCID, Annex Lagos in her drive to strengthen the capacity of her Agency in the attainment of its mandate.

Responding, AIG Owohunwa commended Mrs Vivour-Adeniyi for the passionate and resilient manner she has been carrying out her duties, as well as for the quality leadership she is providing as the Executive Secretary of Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency. While assuring that he shares her vision on the need to have a collaborative approach towards addressing the challenge of Domestic and Sexual Violence, AIG Owohunwa assured her of his firm support.

Towards this end, and as an outcome of the visit, AIG Owohunwa directed the immediate setting up of a Team under the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of FCID, Annex Lagos with a core mandate of investigation and prosecution of Domestic and Sexual Violence, and to act as the liaising between the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and FCID (annex), Lagos.

The issues of training and capacity development were also discussed, with the Executive Secretary promising to extend training slots to detectives to be deployed to the newly established Domestic and Sexual Violence Team in the upcoming training programme of the Agency.

Highlight of the event included the decoration of AIG Owohunwa with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence brotch by Mrs Vivour-Adeniyi who was accompanied by Tope Oyedija, Mrs Oluwalemi Bello ,Tuminu oni ,Zainab rufai ,Mrs Bunmi Orekoya ,Faith Olokun Also in attendance were CP general investigation ,AC Legal and other officers .
