Drama As JAMB Officials Walk Out On Reps Committee
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that mild drama unfolded at the National Assembly on Wednesday when representatives of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) staged a walkout during an investigative session with the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies.
The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, was absent and delegated Mr. Mufutau Bello, a Director at the Board, to represent him.
Tension began when Bello asked journalists to vacate the meeting room, arguing that the documents he intended to present contained sensitive information.
However, the Committee rejected the request, insisting that its proceedings were public and that it was constitutionally empowered to determine how its sittings should be conducted.
In a dramatic twist, the JAMB representative became visibly agitated, ordered his team to leave, and walked out of the session leaving lawmakers visibly stunned.
Infuriated by the walkout, the Committee directed the Sergeant-at-Arms to arrest the JAMB officials, but they had already exited the premises before the order could be enforced.
The Committee has now summoned the JAMB Registrar to appear in person, along with his management team, by Tuesday next week, to present all requested documents.
Failure to comply, lawmakers warned, could lead to the arrest of the JAMB leadership.
