Danger! 5 People Die of COVID-19 on January 1, 2021

Danger, as Covid-19 kills 5 in Nigeria on January 1st of 2021

While the nation revels in New year festivities, five Nigerians were killed by the deadly Covid-19 virus on the first day of the new year.

This is as Nigeria authorities and the world continues to battle the deadly pandemic which has persisted since late 2019, killing millions globally.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control NCDC late Friday gave the new updates on Covid-19 deaths.

According to the NCDC, in a statement on its website, “On the 1st of January 2021, 1074 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in Nigeria.

“Till date, 88587 cases have been confirmed in Nigeria, 74373 cases have been discharged and 1294 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory

“The 1074 new cases are reported from 15 states- Lagos (642), Kaduna (92), Rivers (78), FCT (66), Gombe (66), Kano (35), Ogun (31), Katsina (22), Plateau (20), Abia (7), Niger (4), Oyo (4), Akwa Ibom (3), Delta (2), and Osun (2)

“A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has recently approved the Pfizer vaccine in preparation for global inoculations against the deadly virus.
