COAS Vows To Go After Wanted Bandit Leader Bello Turji
Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff, has vowed that the Nigerian military will track down and eliminate the wanted bandit leader, Bello Turji.
Speaking on Thursday in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, Oluyede addressed journalists at the Headquarters of Operation Fansan Yamma. He reiterated the military’s commitment to securing the region, emphasizing that Turji, a notorious terrorist, would soon be taken out.
“The wanted terrorist, Bello Turji, is currently on the run, and wherever he goes, we are right behind him,” the army chief said. “Let him continue to run; it’s only a matter of time before he is removed from the scene.”
Oluyede stressed that the military remains focused on making the entire North-West safe from banditry and other threats.
While acknowledging the challenges troops face in the region, he expressed confidence that they would overcome them. He also called on Nigerians to support the military and other security agencies by providing timely and accurate information.
Earlier, Oluyede inspected the quarter guard under tight security before receiving an operational briefing from the Theatre Commander, Major General Oluyinka Soyele.
This visit, Oluyede’s first since his appointment on October 30, 2024, comes amid ongoing military operations to combat banditry and other security threats in the North-West. Operation Fasan Yamma is a key part of the Nigerian Army’s efforts to restore peace and stability in the region, which has been plagued by rising incidents of banditry, kidnapping, and other security challenges.
