BREAKING! UNILAG Appoints First Female Vice Chancellor
THECONSCIENCEng can authoritatively report that the Governing Council of the University of Lagos UNILAG has appointed Professor Folasade Ogunsola, former Deputy Vice Chancellor Development Services as its 13th and first female Vice Chancellor.
The decision was made today Friday by the Council following rigorous interviews after a tedious screening process which had produced 7 finalists.
THECONSCIENCEng had reported that Ogunsola may emerge the winner.
The seven finalists include Professors Abayomi Akinyeye of the Department of History, Faculty of Arts; Folasade Ogunsola of the College of Medicine; Mathew Ilori and Adeyinka Adekunle both of the Department of Microbiology and Botany, Faculty of Sciences.
Others are Imran Smith, Faculty of Law; Timothy Nubi, Department of Estate Management at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, and Ayo Olowe of the Department of Finance, Faculty of Management Sciences.
Ogunsola, a University of Whales trained Professor of Medical Microbiology was also the ag. Vice Chancellor in the wake of the Ogundipe vs Babalakin crisis which rocked the citadel of learning in 2020.
She’s 64 years old and an accomplished scholar.
The Council at its meeting on Thursday, October 6, 2022, had earlier approved the appointment of Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Yetunde Adekunle as the new Bursar of the University for a five (5) year tenure with effect from Thursday, November 3, 2022.
Mrs. Adekunle until her appointment was Deputy Bursar, Treasury. She joined the services of the University in 2005.
