THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention Organising Committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, has reaffirmed his strong loyalty to the party, describing it as second only to his religion.

Speaking on Monday at the inaugural meeting of the Protocol Sub-Committee held at the Legacy House in Abuja, Fintiri emphasized his commitment to ensuring a successful national convention, scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15 to 16, 2025.

“Apart from Islam, PDP is the next association that I have committed myself to,” Fintiri declared.

“I assure you that after the convention, the new National Working Committee (NWC) will prove that the PDP is alive, and Nigerians will be happy.”

Fintiri, a former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, described the Protocol Sub-Committee as the “backbone” of the convention. He said its members were carefully chosen due to the strategic importance of their assignment.

“We selected key men and women, including senators, former governors, and former lawmakers, to serve on this committee. That reflects how much importance the party places on your work,” he said.

“We will provide the necessary support to ensure your success. Our goal is a smooth and credible convention.”

He also urged party members to ignore detractors and “noisemakers” attempting to sow division, assuring that the PDP would emerge stronger and more united.

Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor and Chairman of the Sub-Committee, Mr. Caleb Muftwang, praised members for their commitment so far. He said the Abuja meeting provided a platform for physical interaction and early coordination before the main activities commence in Ibadan.

“Our real job begins in Ibadan,” he said.

Also addressing journalists, Deputy Senate Minority Leader and Deputy Chairman of the Sub-Committee, Senator Olalere Oyewumi, along with the Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Toyin Balogun, expressed confidence in the state’s readiness to host the national convention.

They described Oyo as the “hotbed of politics in Nigeria” and assured that arrangements are underway to welcome delegates from all 36 states and the FCT.

However, preparations for the convention have not been without internal challenges. Some party stakeholders, reportedly led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have issued conditions they insist the PDP must meet.

There also appears to be tension between the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, over decisions related to state congresses in Cross River, Plateau, and Kebbi States, as well as the dissolution of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Committee.

Despite these issues, party leaders remain optimistic that the convention will be a turning point, signaling the PDP’s renewed strength and unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
