Amaechi Resigns From APC
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing deep dissatisfaction with the state of the nation and accusing the ruling party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of attempting to manipulate future elections.
Amaechi made the announcement on Wednesday in Abuja during the unveiling of the interim executive of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He stated that his decision to leave the APC was finalised on Tuesday night, following what he described as irreconcilable differences with the party’s direction.
“Nigeria is completely destroyed. People can’t eat. People can’t buy food. There’s no money to buy food. Inflation is at its peak,” Amaechi said. “And the federal government is busy going around trying to hijack the election. INEC is helping them to hijack the election.”
Responding to questions about his break with the APC despite serving under the current administration, Amaechi said he had not participated in party activities for some time.
“I left APC last night. I never attended one meeting. The last time they invited me, I warned them. I even wrote to them not to invite me again,” he said. “You can’t be in a club where the majority of people are stealing and you don’t say anything.”
He stressed that his political focus is now broader than any single party or election, insisting that what Nigeria needs is not just a change of leadership, but a transformation of the entire system.
“It’s not about changing the government. It’s about changing Nigeria,” he said. “What must happen here is that we must start, not just a party, but a movement. It must be a movement that brings in Nigerians to, on their own, take over government.”
