Wema Bank Unveils Upgraded ALAT App to Deliver Faster, Smarter Customers Experience

Wema Bank has launched an upgraded version of its flagship digital banking platform, ALAT by Wema, introducing a range of intelligent features designed to make everyday banking faster, simpler, and more reliable for customers.

The upgraded platform, tagged “ALAT: The Evolution,” marks a major step forward in customer-focused digital banking, offering enhanced speed, intuitive design, and innovative tools that improve accessibility, convenience, and trust in digital financial services.

At the heart of the upgrade are features built to directly benefit customers. These include voice banking, known as SAW, which allows users to carry out banking transactions using natural voice commands, making banking easier for customers who prefer hands-free or more accessible options. The app also introduces Tap and Pay, enabling quick and secure contactless payments, reducing the need for physical cards or cash during transactions.

Another key benefit is uptime prediction, a feature that gives customers better visibility into service availability. By improving transparency and reliability, the feature helps users plan transactions with greater confidence and reduces frustration associated with unexpected service downtime.

Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Wema Bank, Mr. Moruf Oseni, described the upgrade as a strategic move to improve how customers interact with their bank.

> “ALAT: The Evolution is more than an upgrade. It is a clear demonstration of our commitment to redefining digital banking in Africa. By listening closely to our customers, we have upgraded ALAT to a platform that is smart, intelligent, and dependable, delivering innovation that genuinely enhances how people live, work, and transact every day,” Oseni said.

He assured customers that migrating to the upgraded app is seamless. Existing users only need to update the ALAT app via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and log in with their current details, with all account information and transaction history remaining intact. New customers can also onboard easily by downloading the app and following simple registration steps.

The Chief Digital Officer of Wema Bank, Mr. Olusegun Adeniyi, explained that the upgrade goes beyond new features to deliver a more responsive banking experience.

> “With ALAT: The Evolution, we focused on improving the overall customer experience. By integrating voice banking, contactless payments, and predictive reliability, we are delivering a platform that responds intelligently to customer needs and remains consistently available,” he said.

With this upgrade, Wema Bank reinforces its position as a digital-first financial institution, providing innovative solutions that empower individuals and businesses to bank conveniently and confidently in an increasingly digital economy.
