Adeleke, Osun PDP Endorse Tinubu For Second Term

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have formally declared their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Governor Adeleke made the announcement on Tuesday via a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, following a strategic meeting with the PDP leadership caucus in Osogbo.

“Yesterday, I met with the @OfficialPDPNig Leadership Caucus in Osogbo after weeks of consultations with stakeholders across Osun — from traditional rulers and civil servants to market leaders and grassroots party members,” Adeleke wrote.

“I’m pleased to share the resolutions: I remain in the PDP, the party that gave me the platform to serve the good people of Osun. I have been unanimously endorsed by the Osun PDP for a second term in 2026.

“Our party in Osun has also endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027, recognising him as a proud son of our state. PDP remains the most popular and trusted party across Osun State. I will continue to deliver on our Five-Point Agenda with renewed focus and dedication. The love and support from the people of Osun continue to inspire me. Together, we move forward.”

The governor’s statement comes amid months of speculation regarding his political allegiance, with rumours suggesting a possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Such speculation intensified following a private visit by Adeleke, his brother Adedeji Adeleke, and their nephew, Afrobeats star David Adeleke (popularly known as Davido), to President Tinubu’s Ikoyi residence in Lagos on June 3.

On July 16, former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, reignited the conversation by describing Adeleke as a “political orphan” seeking entry into the APC. He dismissed claims that the governor was being courted by the ruling party, despite Adeleke’s meetings with Tinubu and other top APC figures.

Governor Adeleke, however, has repeatedly denied any intention to switch parties. During a stakeholder meeting in May, he reassured PDP members of his loyalty, stating he had no plans to defect.

In another statement dated July 5, he reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, saying:

“I have been inundated with calls regarding rumours of a possible defection. I want to assure the good people of Osun State and Nigerians at large: I remain a loyal member and the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State.

“My focus remains on delivering good governance and fulfilling our Five-Point Agenda for the Osun people. Please disregard the fake news and continue to support our mission for a better Osun State.”
