NCC Acknowledges Service Disruptions in Abuja, Moves to Resolve Challenges

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has acknowledged the quality of service (QoS) challenges currently being experienced by telecommunications subscribers in Abuja, assuring the public that concrete steps are being taken to address the situation and restore optimal service delivery.

The Commission explained that the disruptions, which have affected the quality of experience of subscribers, are largely linked to challenges in diesel supply to base stations operated by IHS Nigeria Limited, the colocation provider responsible for powering Airtel and MTN facilities in the affected areas.

In a statement to journalists signed by Mrs. Nnenna Ukoha, Head, Public Affairs, the NCC disclosed that the situation arose from the activities of the National Oil and Gas Suppliers Association (NOGASA), which disrupted diesel supplies to critical telecom sites, resulting in widespread service outages across parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring seamless communication services for Nigerians, noting that reliable power supply remains critical to the delivery of efficient telecommunications services. It added that it is working closely with major stakeholders and licensees to address the diesel supply bottlenecks affecting telecom infrastructure.

According to the NCC, active engagements are ongoing with relevant parties to resolve the supply challenges and explore more sustainable solutions. The Commission urged all stakeholders to collaborate in removing obstacles to diesel supply in order to ensure the swift restoration of services impacted by NOGASA’s actions.

The NCC further assured subscribers that it is proactively facilitating dialogue between affected service providers and other stakeholders, and will continue to keep the public informed of progress made towards restoring full telecommunications services in Abuja. It thanked subscribers for their patience and understanding, while reaffirming its commitment to delivering high-quality telecommunications services nationwide.
