UNIJOS ASUU Reveals Reasons For Strike
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos (UNIJOS) branch, have announced the withdrawal of their services due to the delayed payment of their June 2025 salaries.
The branch chairperson, Dr. Jurbe Molwus, confirmed that the action would continue until the salaries are paid, in accordance with an earlier agreement reached with the government.
This move follows a resolution by ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC), which directed branches to take action if salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month. The UNIJOS congress had reaffirmed this directive in a meeting held on June 4, 2025.
“In line with the NEC resolution and our congress decision, members are to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our June salaries are not paid by 11:59 p.m. today, July 3, 2025,” Molwus stated in a message circulated to members.
He added that the strike action would take effect from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, July 4, 2025, and would remain in place until further notice.
“The strike monitoring team has been activated to ensure full compliance. Members are urged to stay away from all academic and statutory responsibilities until they are officially directed to resume,” he said.
