NAPTIP Summons Speed Darlington Over Underage S£x Claim

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has officially summoned controversial Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, following the circulation of a viral video in which he allegedly admitted to engaging in sexual activity with a minor.

The video, which quickly sparked outrage across social media, features Speed Darlington making statements suggesting an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old. In response, NAPTIP issued an official invitation for him to appear for questioning.

“Mr. Darlington Okoye (AKA Speed Darlington) is urged to respond to the official invitation issued on May 28, 2025, regarding a viral video and others in which he admitted to sexually abusing a minor,” the agency stated via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday. “Failure to respond may lead to further action.”

In a detailed two-page letter, the agency outlined the nature of the allegations:

“We write to formally invite you to appear before the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in respect of certain video materials recently circulated online, including but not limited to a particular Instagram video wherein you allegedly made statements admitting to having engaged in sexual acts with an underage girl. Additional archived videos, now in circulation, similarly contain admissions and degrading commentary concerning minors.

“These actions, if substantiated, constitute offences under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) 2015 and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.”

NAPTIP has requested that the singer appear in person at its headquarters — located at 2028 Dalaba Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja — by 9 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025. He is advised to bring any legal representation or relevant documents.

“Your cooperation is critical to ensuring a fair and thorough inquiry into the matter. Failure to honour this invitation may result in further legal action,” the agency added.

The incident also drew the attention of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), which escalated the matter to NAPTIP for further investigation.

In a follow-up video, Speed Darlington claimed that his earlier comments were part of a marketing strategy to promote a new song, and issued an apology to those offended by his remarks.
