I'm Driven By Passion to Bring Development to Oshodi Isolo - LG Chairman

I’m Driven By Passion to Bring Development to Oshodi Isolo – LG Chairman

The Chairman of the Oshodi Isolo Local Government, Otunba Oloyede Almaroof has explained that the reason he had hit the ground running was because of his burning passion to bring tremendous growth and development to Oshodi Isolo and its environs.

The Council chairman popularly called Kendoo had immediately after his inauguration commenced inspection of drainages, markets and rehabilitation of roads in the Oshodi Isolo area in fulfilment of some of his development plans and promises to residents.

The council boss made the remarks on the sidelines of the retreat for the new 57 Chairpersons of local councils (LG/LCDAs) in Lagos State organised by the state government recently.

Oloyede said: “For me, the hallmarks of good leadership are passion, sense of direction, consultation and collaboration. I’m driven by a compelling passion to bring impactful development to Oshodi Isolo area and make life more enjoyable for residents. That was why immediately we assumed office; I started with the task of executing development plans and programs.

Speaking on the retreat, Otunba Oloyede said it was a great opportunity to learn, unlearn and relearn on key areas that can further enhance effective leadership and governance.

The Lagos state government had held the 2-day induction and retreat for the newly elected Chairmen of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas in the State to further prepare them for effective leadership and administration.

The program which had various sessions and masterclasses exposed participants to strategies, techniques, protocols and systems that will enhance effective performance, leadership and resources management.

Speaking during the program, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of information, Mr. Shina Thorpe highlighted the critical roles of public relations and communication in leadership.

He said: “For effective leadership, leaders must deploy effective communication to resolve conflicts, set own narrative, and be open to the media to engender development at the grassroots level. “Don’t be media-shy but take charge to tell your own story. It’s better than to start writing rejoinders.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye, Permanent Secretary Pensions and Establishment who spoke on essentials of leadership with Emotional Intelligence highlighted the dynamics and essentials of leadership and emotional intelligence.

He urged the new council bosses to be open, involve people in the administration, try to understand the various human characters and traits and be accessible.

“Your communication style must not debase others. Be assertive, listen, and accept criticisms. Maintain a positive attitude and understand yourself and the people around you. Be approachable, “he counselled.

Regina Iyabo Obasa, a retired Permanent Secretary also gave vital tips on assuring a seamless relationship between the executive and legislative arms of local government while the state commissioner for finance explained the state financial strategic blueprints and how the local council bosses can key into it.
