Yemisi Shyllon Museum Announces Date for Free Public Access
The Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art (YSMA), Pan-Atlantic University, has announced free admission for all visitors from June 15, 2026, in a move aimed at expanding public access to art and culture.
The initiative, the first since the museum opened in 2019, is being funded for an initial three-year period by art collectors and philanthropists Aisha and Gbenga Oyebode. Gbenga Oyebode also serves on the museum’s advisory board.
YSMA said the programme is designed to remove financial barriers to museum visits, increase audience participation and strengthen its role in education, research and cultural engagement.
Museum Director Jess Castellote described the development as a significant milestone, saying it would enable more students, families, researchers, tourists and creatives to engage with Nigerian art.
The Oyebodes said their support reflects a commitment to widening access to Nigeria’s artistic and cultural heritage, particularly for young people.
The initiative comes as the museum seeks to strengthen its position within Lagos’ growing cultural and tourism landscape, following recent engagements with tourism stakeholders.
Located at Pan-Atlantic University, the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art houses one of Nigeria’s largest collections of Nigerian art and serves as a platform for exhibitions, education and public dialogue.
