World Food Day: LASUTH Dietetics and Nutrition Department Marks Global Event

The Dietetics and Nutrition Department of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) celebrated the Year 2022 World Food Day with the theme “Leave No One Behind”, on Monday, 17th of October, 2022.

As part of the activities for the day, the Department paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, who was represented by the Acting Director Clinical Service and Training, Dr. Olatunde Odusote.

Dr. Odusote congratulated the members of the department on behalf of the hospital management. He said that the celebration of the day is very important because people need to be educated and enlightened on the advantages of healthy diets and the disadvantages of unhealthy diets on the body.

World Food Day: LASUTH Dietetics and Nutrition Department Marks Global Event

He spoke further that the department can use the occasion as an opportunity to raise awareness on the benefits of consuming nutritious meals that can reduce the rate of malnutrition especially in children. He encouraged the members of the department to be more actively involved in participating more in clinical activities.

The Head of Department, Mrs. Titilayo Omodudu, said the World Food Day is focused on different aspects of food security and agriculture, climate change and biodiversity. During the nutritional talk, she encouraged everyone to ensure they eat healthy meals that can help reduce the risk of getting exposed to diseases and infections.

Other activities for the day include Health Awareness Walk, Nutritional Talk on Non-Communicable Diseases, Anthropometric Check, Dietary Counselling amongst others.
