UNIZIK Begins Probe As Female Student Allegedly Bites Lecturer
Authorities at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, have launched an investigation into an altercation between a lecturer from the Department of Theatre Arts and a student, which unfolded during the filming of a social media video.
According to school spokesperson Njelita Louis, the university’s management—led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu—will take appropriate disciplinary action against any party found to be at fault.
In viral footage, third-year History and International Studies student Goddy Precious is seen dancing in the corridors while recording a TikTok video. As she captured the moment, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, the lecturer, passed by from behind. The lecturer gently tapped her shoulder to request that she move aside. However, the student became upset with the interruption.
The video shows the student accusing the lecturer of hitting her. In the ensuing scuffle, she is seen grabbing his shirt and dragging him among other students, and she is also alleged to have bitten his wrist and arm during the confrontation. Despite the escalating situation, the lecturer maintained his composure throughout the episode.
An investigation is now underway to determine the facts and to ensure that any necessary sanctions are imposed.
