Police Rescue Kidnap Victim In Edo, Arrest Suspected Cultist
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Police operatives in Edo State have rescued an abductee, recovered a stolen vehicle, and also arrested a suspected cultist who shot a man.
This is according to a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesman of the Edo Police Command Moses Yamu.
“On 08/02/2025 at about 1700hrs, operatives of the Ologbo Division successfully rescued one Osazee Okungbowa from the grip of his abductors,” Yamu said.
He said five armed men abducted the victim around 9:45 pm on the 7th of February, 2025 in his residence at the power line area of Owanoba community.
But following his rescue, the man has “been reunited with his family after receiving medical attention while the command continues with the trail of the suspects,” the police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, Yamu said the police have recovered a stolen vehicle snatched from the owner at the Upper Mission Extension area of Benin City, the Edo State capital.
“Operatives of the Okuaihe Division intercepted and chased after the car snatchers who eventually abandoned the car at Iguomon Community along Benin-Agbor Road,” the police statement read.
Yamu said the car was taken to the police station, “owner identified and the vehicle handed over to him. Efforts to identify and arrest the suspects are ongoing”.
In a related development, a suspected cultist was arrested in Benin after he shot another person during a burial ceremony around the Aduwawa area of the city.
“During the burial procession, the said Kelly Osayawe ‘m’ who is armed with a locally made cut-to-size pistol loaded with four live cartridges firing shots into the air, shot one Mr. Nzube Cletus Mbum who was standing in front of his shop,” the Edo Police Command image-maker added.
“The pellet caused him injury on his hand, leg, and back. The said Kelly Osayawe ‘m’ made an attempt to run away but was chased and apprehended with assistance from members of the public.”
