Paraguay Revamps Work Visa Program To Lure Skilled Professionals In 2025

Paraguay is emerging as a top destination for skilled workers looking for career opportunities in South America.

As of 2025, Paraguay has revamped its work visa program, making it easier for foreign professionals to relocate and build a career.

With a growing economy, affordable living, and a simplified work visa process, the country is becoming an attractive place to live and work.

This simplified visa process aims to bring in skilled professionals to fill labour gaps in key industries such as IT, healthcare, and engineering. According to DAAD Scholarship, the new system reduces bureaucracy and provides a faster path to obtaining a work visa, allowing skilled workers and their families to settle in Paraguay with ease.

To apply for a work visa in Paraguay, applicants must meet specific criteria. These include:

Having a confirmed job offer from a registered Paraguayan employer.
Possessing relevant qualifications in high-demand sectors, and,
Providing necessary documentation like a police clearance certificate and medical fitness report. Proof of financial stability, such as a salary guarantee from the employer or sufficient personal funds, is also required.
In addition, family members, including spouses and children, can apply for a Family Reunification Visa once the primary applicant meets the work visa requirements. This option makes it easier for families to join the worker in Paraguay after securing employment.

Manpower Paraguay offers workforce solutions across various industries, while,
2Max Group provides tailored recruitment services, including job postings and resume screening.
For those in the technology sector, the Tech & IT Recruitment Agency focuses on sourcing IT talent. The application process for a Paraguay work visa involves several steps:

Secure a job offer: Start by applying for jobs through recruitment agencies or the government job portal. Ensure the employer is authorized to sponsor foreign workers and provides a formal job offer.

Prepare documents: Applicants must gather key documents, including a valid passport, job offer letter, police clearance certificate, medical certificate, and proof of financial stability.
Submit application: Submit the completed application form and required documents to the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs or consulate. Applicants also need to pay the visa processing fee.

Visa processing and approval: Visa processing can take several weeks or months. Stay in touch with the consulate for updates.
Family reunification: Once the work visa is approved, family members can apply for a Family Reunification Visa, providing supporting documents such as marriage or birth certificates and proof of financial support.
Travel and settle: After receiving visas, workers and their families can travel to Paraguay. Upon arrival, they must register with local authorities and complete necessary health checks.

Paraguay offers a pathway to permanent residency (PR) for foreign nationals who have lived and worked in the country for an extended period. After two years of temporary residency under a work visa, workers can apply for PR.

Reports inform that applicants must demonstrate continuous employment, legal compliance, and financial stability during their stay.

Family members who have joined under the Family Reunification Visa can also apply for PR alongside the primary applicant. Achieving PR allows individuals to stay in Paraguay indefinitely, access additional benefits, and enjoy long-term stability.

Paraguay’s revamped work visa program makes it easier than ever for skilled workers to relocate to South America. Through this, Paraguay offers the opportunity for professionals looking to build a career in an affordable environment.
