Man Walks Into EFCC Office, Confesses To N9m Scam
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that a middle-aged man has voluntarily turned himself in to the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), confessing to involvement in a ₦9 million employment scam.
The suspect, identified as Idris Adamu, walked into the EFCC office on Monday, June 2, 2025, and requested to meet with the Acting Zonal Director, Deputy Commander of the EFCC (DCE) Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad.
According to a statement released on the EFCC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Adamu confessed to impersonating officials and obtaining money under false pretence. He admitted to collecting a total of ₦9 million from multiple individuals, falsely promising them job placements in federal government agencies.
A portion of the EFCC statement reads:
“A mild drama occurred at the Gombe Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, June 2, 2025, when a middle-aged man walked into the office premises and reported himself for the offence of impersonation and obtaining by false pretence, citing fear of the EFCC.”
During his visit to the commission at around 1:00 PM, Adamu reportedly told the Acting Zonal Director,
“I came to repent of my sins and to confess to the EFCC. In the past, I have obtained a total of ₦9 million through my bank account from various individuals under the false promise of securing them employment in government agencies. I have changed, but I am afraid of the EFCC.”
Impressed by his willingness to come forward, DCE Sa’ad commended Adamu for his confession and promptly directed that he be transferred to the EFCC’s investigation unit for further inquiry.
The EFCC has since launched a full investigation into the matter.
