LAUTECH Nurses Resume Work After Gov Makinde’s Intervention

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that nurses and midwives at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have suspended their indefinite strike following the intervention of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

The development was confirmed in a joint statement signed by the Unit Chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and Unit Secretary, Adedokun Foluwake, and released in Ibadan on Friday.

The health workers had embarked on the strike in September 2025, citing poor welfare and unfavorable working conditions. However, the situation took a positive turn after Governor Makinde visited the hospital on Wednesday, where he met with hospital management, staff, and representatives of professional associations.

During the visit, the governor approved an additional ₦35 million in the hospital’s monthly subvention. He also ordered the phased payment of outstanding promotion benefits and minimum wage arrears.

In a further move to address longstanding issues, Makinde directed the integration of non-staff personnel into the hospital’s system to ensure inclusivity and fairness.

He also pledged to establish a Governing Council for the institution without delay and reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annexe in Oyo town before the end of his tenure.

Following these interventions, the nurses held a congress on Friday, October 3, 2025, where they unanimously resolved to suspend the strike and resume full services immediately.

In their statement, the nurses commended Governor Makinde for his swift and decisive action, describing him as a “compassionate and visionary leader” who restored their confidence in the system.

They added that the intervention not only addressed their immediate welfare concerns but also laid a strong foundation for sustainable institutional development.

“Governor Makinde has once again demonstrated that he is a leader who is tested, trusted, and in tune with the needs of his people,” the statement concluded.
