Lady Arrested For Duping Job Seekers N250m
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested one Oyebode Oluwakemi for allegedly defrauding numerous job seekers of over ₦250 million under the pretense of securing Federal Government employment.
Oyebode was apprehended following a petition by a victim who claimed she collected ₦5.3 million from him. During interrogation by detectives from the Special Enquiry Unit (SEU), Oyebode revealed she had been sending the collected funds to an agent based in Abuja.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, stated that investigations are ongoing to recover the funds from the suspect and other accomplices. He added that Oyebode would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
In a related development, police also arrested one Sakariya Sadiq in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government Area, for allegedly operating a fraudulent Ponzi scheme known as Quest International.
Sadiq reportedly targeted young boys and girls, demanding ₦1.5 million from each, with the condition that they must refer two other people to join the scheme. His activities came to light after parents from Oyo and Osun States reported cases of missing teenagers in Ondo State.
Police rescued over 20 individuals who were allegedly held against their will at Sadiq’s residence. During questioning, Sadiq claimed the funds were for items such as “Chi-pendants,” “Bio-Discs,” and accommodation.
Commissioner Afolabi said:
“Victims are allegedly lured into joining a Ponzi scheme called Quest International Company under false promises of profit. Each victim is required to pay ₦1,500,000 and refer two others as a condition to join. They are then cut off from their families. The operation led to the rescue of 20 victims, who are now being reunited with their families. The suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.”
