Ilorin Tragedy: Man Jumps Into Well After Alleged Use of ‘Colorado’
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that A tragic incident struck the Edun area of Ilorin, Kwara State, last Friday as a 43-year-old man, identified only as Kazeem, reportedly lost his life after allegedly consuming a hard drug known locally as Colo (short for Colorado) and jumping into a well.
Eyewitnesses and local sources said the shocking event occurred shortly after Kazeem returned from Eid prayers in the morning. Under the influence of the psychoactive substance, he was said to have suddenly leapt into a domestic well located at Alapo Compound in the Edun neighborhood.
Emergency services were alerted immediately, and officials from the Kwara State Fire Service were dispatched to the scene.
Confirming the incident, the Fire Service spokesman, Hassan Adekunle, stated:
“The distress call was received by our control room at about 10:29 a.m., reporting that a man had fallen into a well.
Our firefighters were immediately mobilized and successfully recovered the lifeless body of the victim.”
Adekunle added that preliminary findings indicated Kazeem had allegedly consumed Colo shortly before the fatal incident.
The victim’s body was later handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the ‘C’ Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ilorin. Authorities are currently awaiting formal identification and claims by his family.
In response to the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, issued a public warning on the dangers of drug abuse. He emphasized the rising toll of substance misuse and called for more awareness and preventive efforts.
“Drug abuse continues to lead to needless tragedies. We urge members of the public, especially the youth, to stay away from harmful substances like Colo,” he said.
This incident adds to growing concerns over the impact of synthetic and street drugs in communities across Nigeria.
