Adebayo Adedamola Emerges PDP’s Osun Guber Candidate

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Adebayo Adedamola has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun State election.

Adedamola won the party’s ticket after polling 919 of the 957 valid votes cast during the primary election held on Tuesday in Osogbo.

Announcing the results, the chairman of the primary committee, Humphrey Abba, said:

“Void votes: 20. As we earlier informed you, one of the aspirants withdrew. The candidate who received the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola, with 919 votes. He stands elected and returned as the PDP governorship candidate.”

Voting began shortly after accreditation concluded at 11:35 a.m., as declared by the committee’s secretary, Sunday Solarin. He noted that although Governor Ademola Adeleke and Adedamola were originally the two aspirants cleared to contest, Adeleke had withdrawn following his resignation from the PDP.

Solarin emphasized that any vote cast for Adeleke would be “a waste,” urging delegates to adhere strictly to the voting guidelines.

The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and members of the PDP national committee led by Abba. Security personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS), the police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were deployed at strategic locations around the venue.

Proceedings commenced at 11:07 a.m., with delegates verifying their names before casting their votes.

Earlier, THECONSCIENCE NG reported that Governor Adeleke had formally resigned from the PDP. His resignation letter—dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to Sagba Abogunde, the PDP Ward 2 Chairman in Ede North Local Government was obtained on Tuesday.

In the letter, Adeleke stated:

“Due to the current crisis within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect. I thank the party for the opportunities granted me, including my elections as Senator (representing Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State.”
