ADC, PRP Open Merger Talks

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) have initiated discussions on a potential merger ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This was disclosed by the ADC National Chairman, Ralphs Okey Nwosu, during the official launch of the Digital Political Academy at the ADC Global Campus in Abuja yesterday.

Nwosu emphasized the commitment of both parties to justice and their shared vision of building a strong and effective opposition.

“Our party, ADC, and the PRP are committed to building a virile opposition and are standing firm together on justice,” Nwosu stated.

“We must not allow the chaos to overshadow our stellar character as a transformation-driven, innovative, and value-oriented political party

“This innovative initiative is designed to foster a more informed and engaged citizenry equipped with the knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to drive positive change in our society.”

Nwosu criticized opposition lawmakers from the Labour Party (LP) for defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), expressing disappointment at their actions during a period when Nigerians were relying on the opposition to address the challenges posed by the APC government.

He said: “The state of the nation, worsening economy, and security situation under the APC should challenge all opposition parties.

“The signals from the Edo and Ondo elections and the human rights abuses highlight the weakness of the opposition.

“The weakness of the opposition threatens our democracy, the nation, and exposes our citizens to great harm.

“The weakness of the opposition threatens our democracy, the nation, and exposes our citizens to great harm.

For the many families who cannot feed and are ravaged by poverty, for our unemployed graduates, the opposition must stand up to be counted.”

The ADC chairman also condemned the arrest and detention of human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi.

“I am sure you are aware of the arrest of Dele Farotimi. I call on the federal authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of this honorable gentleman.

As a member of a disciplined party, ADC, we call for his immediate release and also urge the authorities to rein in their operatives. Institutions are being desecrated, and citizens’ rights are being trampled upon. All this must stop.”

Highlighting the purpose of the Digital Political Academy, Nwosu said the initiative aims to enhance political awareness and civic engagement among citizens.

“The Digital Political Academy is dedicated to creating awareness and promoting enlightenment among both incoming politicians and the general public.

“Our mission is to empower citizens with the tools and resources necessary to interrogate policies, hold politicians accountable, and make informed decisions at the polls.

“Through our academy, we will offer programs and resources in civic education, leadership development, policy analysis, and voter awareness. By leveraging technology and innovative teaching methods, we aim to increase political awareness, promote civic engagement, and ultimately contribute to a more informed and active citizenry
