The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained a 20-year-old social media influencer, Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as “Peller”, over a viral incident involving reckless driving that resulted in a serious road traffic accident and endangered public safety.
In a statement to journalists on Tuesday signed by SP Abimbola Adebisi, Lagos Police Spokesperson, the Command explained that the suspect was taken into custody following the circulation of a video on Sunday, 14 December 2025, showing him driving dangerously while live-streaming on social media, an act that culminated in a crash and posed grave risks to his own life and those of other road users.

Police described the conduct as a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and a serious threat to public safety.

According to the statement, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation. The outcome of the investigation will be made public, and the suspect will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in line with the law.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has issued a strong warning to social media influencers, content creators and members of the public to desist from promoting or engaging in reckless, dangerous or unlawful acts online.
He stressed that such behaviour would not be tolerated, adding that offenders would face the full weight of the law. The Command also urged all motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations, reaffirming its commitment to the preservation of peace and the protection of lives and property across the state.
