Police Arrest Teenager, 6 Others For Plucking Sister’s Eyes

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that a 17-year-old teenager, Auwal Dahiru, from Bayan Dutse, Wailo, Kubi Ward in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has been accused of conspiring with five others to lure his seven-year-old sister into the bush, where her eyes were forcibly removed for suspected ritual purposes.

The suspects arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command include Mohammed Rabiu (19), Saleh Ibrahim (20), Nasiru Muhammad, Hassan Garba, and Garba Dahiru (43), all from Soro town, Ganjuwa LGA.

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, made available to journalists in Bauchi on Monday, “On 17 October 2025, at about 6:00 pm, Muhammad Adamu of Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo, Kubi Ward, Ganjuwa LGA, reported to the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters that his seven-year-old daughter, Rukayya Muhammad, was attacked at around 8:00 pm on the same day with the intent to kill her, and an attempt was made to pluck out her eyes.”

CSP Wakil added, “Following the report, a team of detectives led by CSP Aliyu Mohammad Goni, the Divisional Police Officer of Soro Division, promptly went to the scene and arrested the suspects. The victim was immediately taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi for urgent medical treatment.”

Preliminary investigations revealed that Rukayya tragically lost her eyesight permanently after her older brother allegedly removed both of her eyes in a ritual believed to be motivated by a desire for wealth.

The victim’s father told investigators that the suspect lured his daughter, who shares the same parents, into the bush before attacking her and forcibly removing her eyes.

An eye specialist at ATBUTH has confirmed that the young girl will never regain her vision.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime voluntarily. Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full motive and to identify any other individuals involved.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough, discreet, and professional investigation.
