Court Stops Bank From Disbursing Osun LG Allocations To APC Chairmen
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the Oyo State High Court has restrained the United Bank of Africa (UBA) from disbursing the withheld local government allocations, which were reportedly paid by the federal government to the council officials elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State.
The Osun State Government dragged the bank to court over the payment of over six months’ withheld allocations.
The Osun State Attorney General and the Osun State Local Government Service Commission had sought a motion of an “Order of Interim Injunction restraining the Defendant/Respondent from paying and/or causing to be paid all and/or any of that funds which constitute the statutory Local Government funds of all the 30 Local Governments in Osun State.”
According to the court documents, the state government also urged the court to mandate UBA not to release the said funds mentioned pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for an order of interlocutory injunction.
In his ruling, Justice A.L. Akintola granted the injunction stopping the bank from disbursing the fund to the APC chairmen.
The court noted that “it is only an interim order that the defendant/respondent will have the opportunity to possibly challenge once the defendant turns up to join issues with the claimants on the motion on notice for an order of interlocutory injunction already filed in this case.
“Accordingly, the interim orders of injunction sought are hereby granted as prayed, on the claimants/applicants.”
