Hilda Baci’s Jollof Rice Event Made Me Realise Nigerians Are Hungry — Peller
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Popular TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, has expressed concern over the harsh economic reality in Nigeria, recounting how a friend travelled all the way from Ikorodu to Lagos Island just to eat a plate of Hilda Baci’s Jollof rice.
Peller made the revelation in a now-viral video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he lamented the level of hunger and desperation among Nigerians.
“There is serious hunger in Nigeria,” he said. “People are really going through a lot.”
Sharing the story of his friend, he said:
“That Hilda Baci cooking event made me realise Nigerians are really hungry. One of my friends, Taiwo, left Ikorodu just to attend Hilda’s event and eat Jollof rice. I swear to God. I told him, ‘Taiwo, your life don bend.’ And this is someone I always admired for how much he loved himself. I don’t even know how his life got to that point…”
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the event in question took place on Friday, September 12, at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, where thousands of Nigerians gathered to witness celebrity chef Hilda Baci attempt to cook the largest pot of Jollof rice ever made.
Hilda Baci rose to global fame in 2023 after breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest individual cooking marathon, clocking an impressive 93 hours and 11 minutes.
