Ryan Coogler Reveals New Update About ‘Black Panther 3’
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that director Ryan Coogler has officially shared an exciting update about the much-anticipated Black Panther 3.
During an appearance on 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony, Coogler confirmed that legendary actor Denzel Washington has joined the cast. The acclaimed filmmaker revealed that he specifically created a role for Washington, a longtime aspiration of his.
“I’ve been trying to work with him since day one,” Coogler said. “I think he’s the greatest living actor. And in terms of what he means to our culture—forget about it. I’ve been talking to him about this for a long time, and I was surprised when he brought it up. But it’s true.”
The upcoming film will center around Shuri, who now carries the mantle of Black Panther. As Wakanda’s protector, she must navigate the delicate balance between the nation’s scientific innovation and deep-rooted spiritual traditions while confronting new threats.
Washington himself previously hinted at his involvement in the project during a 2024 interview with Australia’s Today, where he also touched on his looming retirement from acting.
“I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make—probably not that many,” he said at the time. “I want to do things I haven’t done. I played Othello at 22. I’m about to play him again at 70 on Broadway. After that, I’m playing Hannibal. Then I’ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film.”
In what appeared to be an unintentional reveal, Washington added, “After that, Ryan Coogler’s writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. Then I’m going to do Othello. After that, King Lear. And then, I’m retiring.”
Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm Black Panther 3, though industry sources suggest the film is slated for release in February 2028.
