Abdulrahman Bello Confesses To Killing Kwara College Student For Rituals

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that , the prime suspect in the murder of Hafsoh Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, has confessed to killing her for ritual purposes. The damning confession was played in court on Wednesday during a hearing at the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin.

Bello, currently standing trial alongside four accomplices, admitted in a video recording tendered as evidence that he carried out the murder alone. He claimed he resorted to killing Hafsoh because he had no access to buy human body parts elsewhere, further asserting that he wouldn’t have killed her otherwise.

The case, presided over by Justice Hannah Olushola Ajayi, included testimony from Inspector Ayodele Azeez of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), who led the police investigation. Azeez said disturbing items were recovered from Bello’s residence, including an axe, cutlass, charms, a consultation book, and a container filled with blood.

According to Inspector Azeez, the police received the case from the Oja-Oba Police Division on February 14, 2025. He confirmed that severed hands believed to belong to the victim were among the items found in Bello’s possession, along with other ritual-related objects.

Bello gave both a handwritten and video-recorded statement in the presence of a lawyer, Barrister A.O. Ahmed, who was assigned to him after he declared he couldn’t afford legal representation. The video was later transferred to a compact disk and submitted as evidence.

The defense counsel, Barrister Agbede, objected to the admissibility of the video, alleging that Bello’s confession was obtained under duress. However, Justice Ajayi overruled the objection and allowed the video to be played in court.

Inspector Azeez also revealed that police investigations linked all five suspects through Bello’s call records. He identified the second defendant as Bello’s teacher, the third as the teacher’s student, and the remaining defendants as Bello’s close friends, establishing a connection among the accused.
