Gov Yusuf Denies N2bn Monthly Payment To Kwankwaso

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has strongly refuted allegations of financial misconduct leveled by former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, describing them as “false and baseless.”

Bichi had accused the current administration of diverting N2 billion from local government funds and further alleged that former governor and political leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was receiving illicit payments from the state treasury.

Speaking on Sunday evening to 484 elected ward councillors at the Coronation Hall of the Government House, Governor Yusuf dismissed the claims, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

“Everything we prayed for in this government, God has already granted us. We are content, and no thief can thrive in our midst. Anyone who is dishonest has no place here,” Yusuf stated.

He described Bichi’s allegations as an attempt to discredit his mentor, Senator Kwankwaso, whom he praised as a man with a distinguished record in public service.

“Our government is clean from top to bottom. We are focused on development, and every kobo entrusted to us has been used responsibly,” he said.

The governor expressed dismay over Bichi’s remarks, highlighting that the former SSG was once given a prominent role within the administration.

“I’m shocked by these statements. This is someone we supported and entrusted with a significant position. Now, from outside government, he’s making unfounded accusations,” Yusuf said.

He questioned the logic behind Bichi’s claim that the current administration, barely two years old, had stolen more than ten times what the previous administration under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje allegedly did.

“Is this the reasoning of a rational individual?” the governor asked.

Yusuf also addressed the claim that Senator Kwankwaso receives N2 billion monthly from the state, dismissing it as a malicious fabrication.

“He said our leader demands N2 billion monthly. That money, if given to local governments, could have a great impact. Jagora (Kwankwaso) is a God-fearing leader who served in various high offices with integrity. The people of Kano are proud of him,” Yusuf said.

He firmly defended Kwankwaso’s legacy, describing him as a former lawmaker, two-term governor, minister, senator, and two-time presidential candidate who left office with widespread public support.

“Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is not a thief. Attempts to smear his name will fail,” the governor declared.

Yusuf also questioned Bichi’s credibility and motives, suggesting his behavior was unbecoming of a true Kano indigene.

“You claim the governor was begging you—are you his father, or is he yours? Who appointed whom? Your role had no connection to the budget. If it did, prove it,” he said.

He concluded by warning those spreading misinformation to be cautious.

“We must ask: is this how a true son of Kano behaves? No one who truly loves this state would stoop so low to insult its leaders and peddle lies,” Yusuf said.
