Dare Akogun Highlights Programmes Ahead NUJ Kwara Elections
Dare Akogun, a prominent broadcast journalist in Kwara State, has outlined his plans and ideas for the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) if elected as the president of the Kwara State Council.
Akogun fondly called DaRadioGeneral urged journalists in the state to vote for him en masse during the upcoming elections next week, as he believes his programs will contribute to the development of journalism profession in the state.
In a chat with THECONSCIENCEng, Akogun stated, “I am formally reiterating my intention to vie for the post of Chairman of the Kwara Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists.”
He expressed concern over the current state of the union and emphasized the need for change in leadership. Akogun believes that the majority of union members are yearning for a new direction. He stated, “Our dear union has been driven to the edge of the cliff by rudderless, visionless, and directionless leadership it had been saddled with in the past three years.”
Akogun’s motivation to serve stems from his passion for the profession and his desire to elevate it to greater heights. He sees the union as an organization dedicated to the welfare of its members and aims to reposition it at the state council level to safeguard its relevance and contribute to nation-building.
Belonging to a family with a deep-rooted pedigree in journalism, Akogun believes that journalism runs in his DNA. He highlighted his family’s history of selflessness, respect, and altruistic service. As the pioneer chairman of the Sobi FM chapel, he has already demonstrated his leadership abilities by building one of the most active and vibrant chapels in the state.
Drawing inspiration from the transformation of Dubai from a desert to a global tourism hub, Akogun stressed the importance of visionary leadership. He aims to bring this same level of vision and transformation to the Kwara Council of NUJ with the support of union members.
Akogun firmly believes in the potential of the NUJ due to the professional pedigrees of its members. He envisions the Kwara NUJ becoming an exemplary council for other zones and the nation as a whole.
With God, the support of union members, and belief in themselves, Akogun believes that they can turn the Kwara NUJ into a thriving and prosperous organization.
