Fake Lawyer Arrested In Court
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that a man identified as U. T. Oghenetejiri was arrested on Thursday for allegedly impersonating a lawyer at the Orhuwhorun Magistrates’ Court in Delta State.
The arrest was carried out by members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Udu Branch, after Oghenetejiri reportedly attempted to represent a client in a criminal case.
In a statement issued in Warri, NBA Udu Branch Chairman, Edmund Odohisi, said suspicions were raised when Oghenetejiri struggled to respond to questions from the presiding magistrate.
“He attempted to flee the courtroom but was pursued and apprehended by court staff and lawyers at the nearby Orhuwhorun market,” the statement read.
Odohisi disclosed that Oghenetejiri had been appearing in courts across the area for months, allegedly posing as a legal practitioner.
According to him, inconsistencies in Oghenetejiri’s legal arguments and his inability to provide credible details about his legal training prompted a discreet investigation by the NBA, which eventually led to his arrest.
