It was a long awaited moment of exhilarating emotions and phenomenal display of raw talents as global music talents reality TV show, The Voice Nigeria 4 kicked off with the blind auditions at the weekend.
Themed Unstoppable and sponsored by Nigeria’s premier financial institution, FirstBank, the show, anchored last season by Nancy Isime was hosted by veteran actress Kate Henshaw and co-hosted by Zainab Balogun.
During the Blinds, music talents were required to sing their hearts out to a panel of four judges who had their backs turned and will only behold the singer if impressed by the performance.
Four Nigerian music superstars – Niyola, Praiz, Waje and rapper, Naeto C, who serve as judges cum coaches for the season will select 12 talents each totalling 48, all of whom will proceed into the show.
Waje, the only returning coach and judge who had featured on previous editions joined the 3 others who came on for the first time to give a sterling performance. She also welcomed them and the talents with a Christmas song.
Earlier, Clark McColl, a Bayelsa singer known for singing on his community, had kicked off a long list of performances with a rendition of Michael Jackson’s ‘Heal the World’.

At the end of episode one, Praiz, Waje and Niyola got two talents each while Naeto C got one. Praiz got sensational songbird Benjamin Ayemere and Peter Francis to his team while Waje had Jochebel Pepple and Agbroko Tejiri join her team. Joy CCJ Chukwuma and Melody Thompson opted for Niyola while rapper Naeto C settled for Quindon Ogah.
The episode saw two performances of James Brown’s It’s a Man’s World and Bruno Mars’ When There’s a Man but both failed to impress any of the judges.
Benjamin’s performance of Why I love you by Major however got all four judges excited on their feet with Niyola gushing over the talent.
Peter’s delivery of I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith, Oghene Tejiri’s rendition of Jessie J’s Flashlight as well as Jochebel’s delivery of Lagbaja’s Faraway added more emotions and excitement to the episode, giving viewers an overall enjoyable experience.
