Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has again reiterated his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of street cleaners in the state to safeguard their health.
The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Development revealed this during an interactive session and celebration of committed and dedicated street cleaners and other field workers of the Ministry of Environment held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Ilorin, recently.
According to her, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is a worker friendly leader dedicated to the welfare of workers who have distinguished themselves and contributed immensely to the sustenance of clean and hygienic environment for healthy living.
She appreciated the street cleaners and other field workers for their unflinching support to the present administration in its efforts at eradicating indiscriminate dumping of refuse and sustaining clean and hygienic environment in the state.
In her words, “in recognition of your contributions to sustain clean and hygienic environment in the state, you are going to be incorporated into the free health insurance scheme that is ongoing for workers in the State in order to ensure your healthiness and activeness at work.”
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge said the event was to celebrate the committed and dedicated street cleaners and other field workers who have contributed immensely to the sustainability of a clean and healthy environment, most especially in Ilorin metropolis.
The Commissioner commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his unalloyed support to the Ministry, most especially, the prompt release of the monthly allocations for sanitation, repair of vehicles, payment of salaries of sweepers and field workers and others that help the Ministry to discharge its cabinet responsibilities effectively.
While delivering his goodwill message, the Special Adviser to His Excellency on Special Duty, Alhaji AbdulRazaq Jiddah thanked the workers for their hard work and reiterated the present administration’s commitment to continue to improve the standard of living of workers.
Alhaji Jiddah later announced cash gifts to all the outstanding street cleaners and field workers to compliment the prize given by the Ministry.
In her remark, the representative of the street cleaners and other field workers, Madam Abosede Amuda, applauded the present administration for recognising their contributions to the growth of the state and
acknowledged the prompt payment of their salary, including the receipt of their June salary before the Sallah celebrations.
Twenty-five sweepers were awarded for their diligent service delivery and were given prizes. Also, more than 400 field workers were given transport fare back home.
