At least 1002 Nigerians have been killed by Coronavirus pandemic while 322 new confirmed cases were recorded on Sunday, according to NCDC latest statement.
This is as Coronavirus cases in Nigeria continues to persist with 322 new cases and a total of 52227 confirmed cases in the West African nation as at Sunday August 23, according to government authorities, TheConscience reports.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, in an official tweet, late Sunday, confirmed that the total cases now stand at 52,227 with 1002 casualties recorded while 38,945 have been discharged after recovering fully and testing negative to the deadly virus.
The report indicates that Lagos continues to lead the pack sadly with 130 fresh cases followed by Bauchi with 36 cases and FCT with 25 and Edo with 17, while Bayelsa, Ogun and Oyo states recorded 14 cases each from the total 322 cases on Sunday.

Anambra, Kaduna and Ondo states recorded 13, 12 and 11 fresh cases respectively with the Southern part of the country on the overall taking the worrisome lion share of the Coronavirus pandemic in the country with Lagos in an isolated lead.
While Lagos maintains a worrisome and high-margin lead despite the drops in the state and FCT, neighbouring Ondo and Osun, Rivers and Benue, Ogun, Ebonyi and Abia continue to record significant drops though they have much lower cosmopolitan status and influx of people.
Nigeria continues to grapple with a majority of public that ignores health protocols on Coronavirus or takes solace in conspiracy theories owing to deep seated mistrust for government occasioned by years of official corruption, inconsistent policies, volatile politics and decay of public infrastructure.
