As part of the efforts to keep upgrading the hospital’s services, the Board and Management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) embarked on restructuring the Nursing Department.
The Nursing department is now disaggregated into four new Units comprising, Clinical Services, Training & Research, Monitoring Crew and Administration. Also, four pioneer heads were installed and decorated on Wednesday, 16th of March, 2022.
In her welcome address, the Director of Nursing Services, LASUTH, Mrs. Adebola Aina, said the ceremony is a laudable development in the Nursing Department, adding that the new structure will strengthen the operations of the department and in turn help in the overall output of the hospital’s objectives.
She appreciated the entire Management team led by the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, for its continuous support for the growth of the department.
Mrs. Shonibare charged the newly installed pioneer Heads of Units to embrace excellent clinical services and ensure good coordination amongst the Units to achieve great results; which can be done through discipline, fair hearing and strategic planning.
Professor Adetokunbo. O Fabamwo, the Chief Medical Director, LASUTH, congratulated the newly inaugurated pioneer Heads of the new Nursing Units. He said the Board and Management of the hospital came up with the idea to restructure the Nursing Department for better organization and improvement of quality healthcare service delivery.
He said the management is recruiting more nurses but there are a lot of applicants that are not suitable for the standard of operations required for a nurse.
The Chairman, Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Mrs. Bola Offi, applauded the Management of LASUTH for taking such a progressive step in improving the services of the hospital and for setting the standards for other Government hospital to follow.
She told the new Heads of Units to take note of the specific roles and objectives assigned to them and focus on those obligations to impact and bring development to LASUTH. She also encouraged them to work in tandem with the apex leader in the Department so as to achieve the hospital’s vision.
The pioneer Heads of the new Nursing Units are, DDNS. Temitope Sikaye, Head of Clinical Services, DDNS. Cecilia Ogundeko, Head of Monitoring Crew, DDNS. Oluwatoyin Babarimisa, Head of Training & Research Unit and DDNS. Ololade Fadipe, Head of Administration Unit.
The new Head of Nursing Clinical Service Unit, DDNS. Temitope Sikaye responded on behalf of all the new Heads of Nursing Units, appreciated the CMD and the entire Management team for granting them the opportunity to serve in different capacities. She promised that the Unit Heads will discharge their duties with the fear of God and in alignment with the mission and vision of the hospital.
