Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Nigeria’s President-Elect, has pledged to address a long list of issues, such as rising violence, unemployment, wobbling economy, healthcare, double-digit inflation and large-scale oil theft.
One thing that has come to define Tinubu and has never been in doubt remains his track record as a good administrator and efficient leader while serving as governor of Lagos from 1999 to 2007.
During the era, he repaired the city’s chaotic roadways, trash collection, and other services. Many of the nation’s lingering issues and challenges grew worse under the various administrations of Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan and Mohammad Buhari.
Below are some of the few things to expect from Bola Tinubu presidency
1. Youth Involvement in Administration and Unemployment
Tinubu during the presidential election campaign has promised to rally the youth around his administration. He said he believed the youth can play significant roles in his administration.
In his acceptance speech after emerging as president elect, Tinubu told jubilant youths: “I hear you loud and clear. I understand your pains, your yearnings for good governance, a functional economy and a safe nation that protects you and your future. I am aware that for many of you Nigeria has become a place of abiding challenges limiting your ability to see a bright future for yourselves“ .
He went ahead to pacify the youth and asked to be given a chance first, stating that he and his deputy should be held accountable as remodeling the country requires a harmonious efforts.
Sadly, unemployment rate in Nigeria according KPMG was pegged at 41% as at last month.
In tackling the menace of unemployment Bola Tinubu has promised to invest in the electricity sector to power small and medium-scale businesses.
He also assured youths to make them job creators and not job seekers, mainly through infrastructural development that would create opportunities to explore all sectors of the economy.
2. Promises to be ‘fair leader’ to ‘disillusioned’ Nigeria
No doubt many Nigerians have lost faith in the country political and economic state as well as the security state of the nation, however with the emergence of Bola Tinubu, the president elect has promised to be fair to all irrespective of religion, ethnicity, tribe, political affiliation or zone.
The president who has been in Port Harcourt since wednesday for a two-day official visit to the oil-rich South-South state on Thursday, said Nigerians must tolerate one another. His presence was unusual of the Nigeria politicians owing to the fact that he was there to commission projects for an opposition governor. He said “I promise Nigerians that the unity of this country is not negotiable. I promise I will be fair to all.”
3. Economic transformation
Bola tinubu excellence spirit and the ability to look inward against all odds to make a functioning economy work can not be taken away from the former Lagos Governor, his experience taking lagos from a jungle to a megacity can not be over emphasized .
He has promised to seeks to sustain the public-private partnership (PPP), Modernise and expand public infrastructure so that the rest of the economy can grow at an optimal rate make Nigeria a nation of creators, not just of consumers, export more and import less, strengthening both the naira and our way of life.
On fuel subsidy,Tinubu said it would be phased out and the money will be channelled to agricultural and social welfare programmes, road construction, public transport subsidies, education and healthcare programmes.

4. Security and Crude Oil theft
In the last two administrations of both opposition and the ruling party, one of the major challenges that hit Nigeria most is insecurity and crude oil theft.
The security situation in the country was more escalated under the Goodluck Jonathan administration as over 200 young girl were kidnapped during school hours, causing uproar and attention of international communities. However Nigeria president elect has promised that he would use his experience from running Lagos between 1999-2007 to institute “no-nonsense” crime prevention reform to end insecurity in Africa’s most populous economy.
The use of anti-terrorist battalions would be created to fight the insurgency in the northeast and banditry and kidnapping in northwestern Nigerian while the military would be better equipped.
Optimistic that oil theft will be a forgotten issue, Tinubu has promised to ensure maximum deployment of technology to curtail oil theft in the polity.
5. Corruption
Corruption is the single greatest obstacle preventing Nigeria from achieving its enormous potential. It drains billions of dollars a year from the country’s economy, stymies development, and weakens the social contract between the government and its people.
Nigeria is on the path of greatness as Bola Tinubu as promised to make corruption unattractive in Nigeria , prior to election he also said his government would implement policies that would make people shun different forms of graft.by creating a robust and credit system to enable people to acquire the basics of life, such as housing, cars and household equipment and pay gradually.
6. Education and Health care
Nigeria educational definitely needs reform with incessant strike actions and the unfortunate mess of medical tourism in the country. Nigeria president elect has promised to review the education curriculum at all levels “to suit the emerging global best practices and current socio-economic realities. He has also promised that during his tenure as Nigeria president, Nigeria universities will not go on strike.
No doubt Nigeria health care system is in comatose as more Nigeria medical students and medical practitioner keep leaving Nigeria for abroad, however Tinubu is optimistic that with increasing the financing available for the Basic Health Care Provision Fund and the Vulnerable Group Fund. He is considering the decentralisation of the social health insurance scheme, against the fresh mandate of the current administration to bring all Nigerians under a central national scheme managed by the National Health Insurance Authority.
