Kwara PDP Confirms N3.7billion Geri Alimi underpass poorly constructed under ex-Gov

•says maintenance will cost millions monthly

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has agreed that the Geri Alimi Diamond Underpass constructed under immediate past Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed was poorly constructed and would need monthly maintenance by the contractor.

This was confirmed in a statement by Tunji Moronfoye, Publicity Secretary of Kwara PDP.

THECONSCIENCEng reports that Moronfoye said the Underpass will require some whopping million naira to be maintained in a month.

An engineer source has explained after conducting an independent investigation of the road that there was no damp proofing on the retaining walls and no stone base under the asphalt.

He said the damp proofing on the retaining wall would have prevented water and moisture spillage.

Meanwhile, the PDP Publicity Secretary also revealed that there was a second leg to the project from Geri Alimi to General Hospital which they left undone and is part of what is wreaking havoc on the Underpass.

Abdulfatah Ahmed has several projects that were abandoned and left undone in his administration.

Governor AbdulRazaq has been putting finishing touches to these abandoned projects, including the KWASU satellite campuses (Osi and Ilesha Baruba); Kwara State Secretariat; road projects, while also initiating his own legacy projects.

“The maintenance contract for the landmark project was awarded to the same company, Duravil construction company at a sum of 1.5 million Naira monthly from May 2019 to May 2021 (for the first phase) or 18 million Naira annually…” the PDP spokesperson wrote in part.
