JAMB Registrar, Oloyede
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that in a gripping courtroom revelation, Mr. Yisa Usman, the recently dismissed deputy director of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has pledged to continue his fight against corruption within the agency, despite facing threats and intimidation.
During his testimony at the National Industrial Court in Abuja, Usman, the sole witness in his own case against JAMB, recounted his efforts to report alleged corrupt practices over the past several years.
Usman’s legal battle stems from his termination, which he claims was unlawful. He admitted to submitting petitions to various government bodies detailing the corruption he witnessed at JAMB.
Under cross-examination by JAMB’s counsel, Usman confirmed receiving multiple queries and an invitation to a disciplinary committee before his dismissal, which he contested on grounds of irregularity.
He read aloud an email he sent in response to the committee’s invitation, underscoring his determination to seek justice and reform within the organization. “The fight against corruption and abuse of authority is the responsibility of every Nigerian,” Usman stated emphatically, asserting that he would not be deterred by threats to his safety.
The court heard that Usman had previously reported his concerns to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Inspector General of Police, warning that if anything were to happen to him, the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, and his Deputy, Mr. Mufutau Bello, should be held responsible.
Usman is suing the agency for N150 million, seeking to overturn his dismissal, which he describes as irregular and unconstitutional.
He contends that the composition of the disciplinary committee that handled his case was flawed, as it included individuals he had implicated in his allegations. The case has been adjourned until February 27, 2024, for the defendant to present its defense.
